Eric Mouton started his basketball career like so many other kids in the Acadiana area, playing youth basketball. Coach Eric played for the Pius Athletic Association in the early 80’s. He attended St. Cecilia Elementary School and played through the 8th grade, earning MVP honors as a 7th and 8th grader. From there he went to newly opened St. Thomas More High School and helped put them on the map as a basketball powerhouse. In 1986, as a junior, he was 6th man on the first, and only, Basketball State Championship at STM. As a senior starter, he led STM back to the championship game, National Ranking by USA Today, and made the 3A All State Team. After the season he was chosen to play in the prestigious LHSAA East West All Star Game where he led the West to an impressive victory over the East. Eric signed a Scholarship to play at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. He was the 6th man for most of his career and was the starting point guard as a senior in 1992 on the Sun Belt Conference regular season and Tournament Champions! The tournament championship earned UL a bid into “The Big Dance”, The NCAA Tournament. In the 1st round, with Eric at the point, UL upset the heavily favored Oklahoma Sooners. UL has not won an NCAA Tournament game since then. After his playing days at UL it was a perfect fit for him to become a coach. Many people considered him a coach on the floor during his playing days. He has been the head coach at 2 local high schools and is currently the assistant at STM. He has also been an assistant at 2 universities here in Louisiana. His experience speaks for itself, 13 years playing and 12 years coaching. That’s 25 years of basketball experience at your disposal.
